Spencer presented a worksheet intended to clarify the commission’s role and next steps after a recent city council workshop. Commissioners expressed mixed views on whether the commission should continue in its present form if the council deems it unnecessary.
Mark said that if the city council ‘‘doesn't feel that it's necessary, well then disband it,’’ arguing the council ultimately decides whether the commission should exist. Other commissioners pushed back on the idea that volunteer time was being questioned and urged clearer expectations for commissioners’ workload.
Spencer and others emphasized maximizing volunteer value and suggested structuring future meetings quarterly with focused agendas tied to workstreams such as budget or planning. Commissioners agreed the worksheet could be submitted to council; they asked that feedback go to Chris (the chair) and Spencer so the council would receive a consolidated recommendation.
No formal decision to change meeting frequency or to disband the commission was made; commissioners said they would finalize the worksheet and forward it to council. The commission set its next regular meeting for the second Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.
