The Town of Clayton council approved routine business and endorsed a community service project proposed by Troop 1111 on Tuesday night.
The council approved the March minutes and the April claim docket by voice vote. After that, members heard a presentation from Emily of Troop 1111, who described a plywood ‘blessing box’ with a shingled roof and plexiglass door intended to hold nonperishable food. Emily said the troop plans to fund and stock the box with cookie‑sale proceeds and rotate girls through a stocking schedule.
Town Council President emphasized coordination with Town Manager Pete on exact placement and drainage concerns, and noted that locating the box near the ramp would keep it in camera view. Emily said the troop would post a sign asking for nonperishable donations only to avoid spoilage.
Council members asked about construction details (roughly 30 inches above ground at the door, about 2 feet wide and 13½ inches deep, with two shelves) and paint choices; the council encouraged the troop to choose a colorful design and suggested the town could help with placement if needed. "We have cameras there, so if we had any problems... we can move it somewhere else," the Town Council President said.
In addition to the blessing box, the council discussed several operational matters typically handled at the start of the meeting, including scheduling a town clean‑up day (June 6) and approving the meeting minutes and claims docket. The council adjourned by consensus at 8:25 p.m.
