The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury adopted a proclamation designating April 12–18, 2026, as National Telecommunicator Week and heard a briefing on 911 call volume and performance.
Ms. Eason, serving as one of the liaisons for the emergency 911 group, told jurors that 911 answered 113,763 phone calls in the previous year, an average of about 338 calls per day, with most calls coming from cell phones. She said the center’s average answer time was eight seconds, below the industry standard of 10 seconds. Call breakdowns, as presented, were approximately 66% for law enforcement, 11% for fire, 3.2% for emergency medical calls and about 13% categorized as hang-ups. Ms. Eason said those services are provided by 19 telecommunicators.
Ms. Eason thanked the telecommunicators for their quiet, steady work, saying they perform essential services for parish residents.
