Board members used part of the work session to report on a recent visit to the Westshore Career Technical District and to highlight new career and technical offerings supported by a state grant. The board noted the district’s visit to the welding lab and other technical classrooms and praised instructors and program outcomes.
Members said the welding classroom was built with state funding — described in the meeting as a $5.7 million state grant used to build a welding lab with 24 welding bays and to equip other career‑technical spaces — and that instructors were seeing strong student engagement. The board encouraged outreach to Westlake families to increase enrollment and noted a Westshore graduation and passport ceremony scheduled for May 19.
Board members and staff said they were impressed by the facilities and recommended additional parent tours and school outreach so more Westlake students can consider technical pathways.
What's next: School staff said they will continue to coordinate parent tours and share information about Westshore programs with middle and intermediate school families.
