District recommends new AP and world-language textbooks after teacher–parent review

District staff presented proposed textbook recommendations for AP Language, AP Literature and world-language courses and described a collaborative review that paired teacher subject-matter experts with randomly selected parent volunteers.

Staff said the selection process began after winter break and included teacher panels, parent volunteers who were randomly selected for committee seats, and a review of sample materials. For AP English the teams recommended new texts (teacher and parent panels favored Bedford titles). For world languages the teams recommended 'Reporteros' for Spanish 1–4 and 'Signing Naturally' for ASL 3–4; staff noted AP and language materials will be on display at the district office and each high school prior to a formal adoption vote.

Board members and staff emphasized the value of parent participation in the review, said the materials are on display in school lobbies and the district's central office, and set a timeline for the adoption vote at a subsequent meeting.

The district noted funding for curriculum updates became available through recent grants and budget allocations and that textbook cycles had lagged in some subject areas. Staff will return with a formal recommendation and adoption item for the board to vote on at a future meeting.
