House Judiciary Committee advances child-support withholding, Howard County pay and insurer-conversion bills

The House Judiciary Committee convened a brief Saturday vote session on April 11 and approved three bills, the committee chair said.

The committee accepted technical amendments and passed Senate Bill 16, which adjusts earnings‑withholding limits for child support. The chair said the amendments correct a percentage and clarify how the qualifying amount is determined. After no questions, the clerk called the roll and the tally was reported as 14‑0‑0‑4‑1; the motion carried.

The committee then approved Senate Bill 1003, which sets compensation for Howard County’s sheriff and the county state's attorney. There were no questions; the clerk recorded the vote as 14‑0‑0‑1 and the motion carried.

The committee also passed Senate Bill 982, a measure on converting mutual insurance holding companies into mutual insurers. The chair noted there were no amendments and no questions; the clerk reported a 14‑0‑0‑4‑1 tally and the motion carried.

The committee chair closed the session by announcing she would circulate the chart used during the meeting and thanked members for arriving early. The vote session ended so members could attend the 10:00 a.m. floor session.
