Votes at a glance: Sequoia board approves expulsion, consent agenda and engineers' report

Several formal actions were recorded at the May 8 board meeting of the Sequoia Union High School District:

• Student discipline (agenda item 2.1): The board moved, seconded and approved the expulsion in closed session for case number 2023‑20241; roll‑call tally recorded as five in favor, zero opposed.

• Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda in one motion by roll call; recorded votes indicate five 'yes' votes among trustees present.

• Executive Director, People, Culture & Collaboration (job description): After public comment and trustee discussion, the board approved the superintendent’s recommended job description; roll call recorded four votes in favor and one opposed (4–1). Trustees asked staff to clarify ambiguous DEI terminology during recruitment.

• Resolution to approve preliminary engineers' report (maintenance assessment district): Staff presented a preliminary engineers' report prepared by SCNI Consulting; the board approved Resolution No. 16 to accept the preliminary report on roll call. The final engineers' report will return to the board for approval at the June 12 meeting.

None of these items included final budgetary appropriations at this meeting; staff will return with required documents or adoption items where indicated.
