A group of Cordova students told the school board on May 13 that a two‑week Close‑Up trip to New York City and Washington, D.C., gave them new perspectives on history, civic life and other cultures.
The teacher leading the trip opened the presentation by thanking the board for approving the travel and said the students had “so many highlights more than we have time to share today.” Students then took turns describing visits to the National Museum of American History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Times Square, the National Mall and other sites. Several speakers said the experience made them appreciate Cordova’s close‑knit community while seeing how large cities preserve historical sites and celebrate diverse cultures.
Principal Gonzales and board members praised the students’ reflections and the trip’s educational value. Board members asked whether participating juniors might be eligible for internships or other follow‑on opportunities; administrators said they were exploring connections with local employers and postsecondary partners.
The presentation concluded with applause from the board and a reminder that the experience will inform future program planning. There was no formal board action tied to the presentation; it was provided as an informational report.
The board meeting continued with routine agenda business after the student presentations.
