County commissioners award Curry Pike reconstruction, receive transit and early-voting updates

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners approved awarding the Curry Pike reconstruction contract to DC Construction Services after five sealed bids were opened and departmental approvals were received.

Highway director Lisa Ridge said the project (first of potentially three phases) will include milling, curb and drainage work, sidewalk repairs and paving, with work scheduled for 2026 for the described section from the Bloomington city limits to near State Road 48. Commissioners approved the motion unanimously.

Executive Director Chris Meyers of the Area 10 Agency on Aging reported rural transit ridership for 2025: systemwide 41,466 trips and 15,128 trips in Monroe County (about 36.5% of the four-county total). Meyers also reported a recent catalytic-converter theft from a rural transit bus, an operational loss the agency will address.

Commissioners’ administrator Angie Perie briefed the board on plans to use space in the showers building for early voting and temporary voter-registration staff; she said the first floor will be available for early voting while election staff are temporarily housed upstairs.
