Tinley Park board approves routine appointments, proclamations and municipal code updates; fleet purchase and several ordinances adopted

Tinley Park — The Tinley Park Village Board on May 21 approved routine personnel appointments, proclamations and a series of municipal-code and administrative items during a regularly scheduled meeting.

The board confirmed four personnel appointments: Jack Tuy as police special project coordinator (effective May 22), Pamela Arvanites as marketing assistant (effective June 3), and Curtis Flander and Kevin Casey as maintenance technicians (effective May 22 and May 28, respectively). Each appointment was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.

Trustees adopted a proclamation naming May 2024 Motorcycle Awareness Month in recognition of ABATE of Illinois and the group’s local outreach on motorcycle safety. The board also approved two 10‑year license agreements (each with two five‑year renewal options) related to Harmony Square (identified on the agenda as agreements with Durban HS LLC and Tien HS LLC) after committee‑of‑the‑whole review.

Code changes approved included an amendment to the municipal code setting the start time for regular village board meetings to 6:00 p.m., effective June 4, and an amendment to chapter 37 to align village code with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act to avoid repeated code changes when state FOIA law is updated. Trustees also approved updates to tobacco, vape and nicotine dealer licensing that clarify definitions and set a cap on dealer licenses; staff discussion referenced 33 currently licensed establishments and outlined a Class A/Class B breakdown.

The board adopted Resolution R‑064, approving an intergovernmental easement modification with the Tinley Park Park District for Moose Park, and approved a Public Works fleet purchase list listed on the agenda as “not to exceed” an estimated $651,000. (Staff remarks during discussion included an inconsistent figure of $51,500; trustees asked staff to clarify and explained vehicles will be reassigned or auctioned as appropriate.)
