Board approves consent agenda; staff to place surplus equipment, fund transfer and donation on next meeting's consent agenda

During its March 3 work session, the Roanoke County School Board moved and seconded to approve the consent agenda and heard presentations of routine administrative items that staff will add to the formal consent agenda at the next public meeting.

Melanie Fischer, assistant principal at Burton Center, asked the board to declare larger BCAT items surplus because the center is transitioning equipment to the new RCCTC; she said sales will begin in April with most transactions occurring over the summer and that some items could sell for more than $500 once bidding closes. "I am Melanie Fischer, the assistant principal at Burton Center," she said when introducing herself.

Susan Peterson outlined two finance items: correcting an extra custodial payroll entry and transferring $71,020 into operations (board approval required because the transfer exceeds $50,000), and accepting a donation from the estate of John Thomas Credle to cover unpaid student meal balances. Peterson said the donation will be routed through a grant fund so unused portions remain available for future meal debt.

On minor capital, Dr. Jamie Sulttus recommended appropriating $17,200 from minor capital special projects to replace worn auditorium coral risers at Glen High School with units matching other high schools; staff recommended adding that request to the consent agenda.

Board members asked timing and procedural questions; staff indicated these items will roll to the next regular meeting's consent agenda for formal approval.
