The Fremont City Council on May 14 completed several administrative and legislative items tied to the May 14 election results and related ballot measures.
Staff reported the county clerk expected to deliver certified election results imminently. Legal advised a motion to receive and file certified election results upon the city clerk's receipt so the city could meet a June 3 filing deadline with the Nebraska Department of Revenue; the council approved the motion by a 7-0 vote.
Council then moved to adopt Ordinance 56-78, continuing a half-cent sales and use tax approved by voters on May 14, 2024; by unanimous vote after suspension of the rules the ordinance advanced to final reading and was adopted with an effective date for continuation beginning Oct. 1, 2024 and running through Sept. 30, 2034 per the ordinance language presented.
The council also adopted Ordinance 56-79 to continue the voter-approved economic development plan (the LB840 program) by unanimous vote after suspending rules and moving to final reading.
