Board approves on‑site crushing request, oversized driveway and utility permit for local businesses

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors approved several land‑use and utility items raised during the meeting, including a public comment request to crush a decommissioned rock pile for onsite use, a commercial oversized driveway application and a utility permit.

Public commenter Cole Anderson introduced himself and explained that a decommissioned scale and a roughly 5,000‑ton pile of shot rock at the West Corey site need to be rearranged; he asked for permission to bring in a crusher (contractor Saddler Construction from Eagle Grove) for a short, under‑one‑week operation to produce base material to be used on his property rather than sold. A board member moved to allow the crushing and that motion passed by voice vote.

Staff then presented a MidAmerican Energy utility permit to install ~45‑foot poles with an underground transition, which the board found in order and approved. The board also reviewed and approved an oversized driveway permit for Anderson Aggregates LLC to build two 100‑foot driveway tops (one entrance, one exit) on Georgia Avenue as part of the scale relocation; staff noted fractured limestone conditions and that existing driveways on the property would be removed.

Board members discussed traffic, ditch conditions and the need for a separate permit from Midland Power for any additional power crossings; all three items were approved by motions and voice votes.
