The board authorized the county recorder to restart the hiring process for a clerk position after the recorder explained the office is strained at two staff and that delays in recording documents create downstream impacts for assessors, auditors and treasurers.
Recorder Nicole (who self‑identified in public comment) said she has approximately 13 applicants and described operational strains if the office remains short‑staffed. A board member moved to allow the hiring process to proceed; the motion was seconded and carried. The board clarified that elected offices generally bring hires before the board for approval.
Separately, the board discussed issuing county phones to supervisors and select department staff to separate personal and county business and to simplify public‑records handling. Staff recommended a mid‑tier voice/data plan; board members asked staff to obtain pricing for five supervisor lines and an additional six lines for department use and to return at the next meeting with the cheapest option so the board can approve procurement.
