Mayor Eric Perrotta addressed the Curry County Board of Commissioners during the public comment period to thank them for supporting the Brookings Harbor School District's school resource officer and to request a letter of support from the county for two Brookings-area census tracts being advanced in a South Coast regional Opportunity Zone application.
Perrotta said he was looped into the regional coordination effort on short notice and had participated in a regional meeting that included business development partners and the South Coast Development Council. He said the region plans a coordinated submittal because the number of Opportunity Zone approvals is limited and a regional approach strengthens the application.
Perrotta specifically thanked Commissioner Trost and the county for confirming support and said he believed the coordinated application would improve the chances of securing an Opportunity Zone designation that could benefit the coastal region. He asked the board to provide a letter of support for the two identified areas and thanked the commissioners for acting swiftly on the short timeline.
The board acknowledged the request. No formal vote or specific commitment deadline for delivering the letter was recorded in the meeting transcript.
