The Everett Public Schools Board appointed Director Andrew Nichols to the student representative selection committee, which interviews and recommends high-school students to serve as the district's student representative to the board.
Staff described the committee's makeup: the PTA district representative (currently identified in the transcript as Jen Herman), the regional superintendent (Larry Fleckenstein), the school principal (Dave Peters), district staff and a board representative. The committee typically interviews candidates during a single morning session (about two to three hours) and recommends finalists to the superintendent, who then interviews finalists and makes a recommendation to the board for final approval.
Staff said recruitment had produced three applicants despite school closures; one applicant had accepted a page position in Olympia and was unable to serve. Directors said the interview schedule, tentatively April 16, may need to be reconfigured or moved to remote formats if closures persist, and staff said interviews are often conducted during the school day so students can return to class.
The motion to appoint Director Nichols was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
