Three elementary STEM teachers presented classroom work and curriculum goals to the board, emphasizing hands-on projects, cross-grade collaboration and inclusion for adapted classes.
"My name is David Warner. I'm the STEM teacher at Steep Falls, Edna Libby, and Georgie Jack," Warner told the board as he described electricity lessons and student-led instruction in which a student with a lineman family member helped teach peers. Morgan Drinkwater and Rachel Presby described multiweek units such as a schoolwide planets project at Buckton Center and coding activities using floor-based 'Indie' cars as a first step toward visual coding.
Teachers said projects were intentionally accessible to all grades and highlighted adapted STEM work for life-skills students, including motor and cause-effect activities with small robots. The presenters noted they share lesson plans and rotate ideas among schools to scale activities districtwide.
Board members praised the hands-on approach and committee support. Director Heath said the curriculum committee was "definitely supportive" and encouraged teachers to request further support if needed.
The teachers said they will attend a Massachusetts-based conference (MMSA) together to continue professional development and return with new strategies.
