Mr. Blackwell, reporting for the athletics committee, said the group discussed concerns about athlete attendance and recommended creating a policy so coaches, the athletic director and the superintendent would be notified and that implementation steps be integrated for next school year.
"We met um for the athletic committee and we had discussions about the attendance for athletes and um we also had a discussion about developing a policy to make sure that um the coaches and the athletic um director and the superintendent um be aware of the attendance issues and to make sure we put that implementation into the um policies for our next school year," Mr. Blackwell said.
He said the committee also discussed adding sports the district currently lacks — naming golf and bowling as examples — and suggested intramurals to give students experience where full interscholastic programs are not yet available. The committee plans to draft policy language and return to the board with proposed next steps.
The report preceded routine votes later in the meeting and did not include a formal board decision on specific athletics policy language at this session.
