At the start of its April 7 meeting the Sumner County School Board held a brief special-called session in which trustees approved two agenda items by voice vote.
First, the board approved a motion to adopt the 2026 Sumner Scholars budget. Dr. Langford told the board the timing is driven by legislative allocations and the district must get the funding incorporated into its commission and budget in order to begin purchases within a narrow window.
Second, the board approved executive committee authorization for rental of HVAC units for Beach High School. Trustees noted the units materially improve classroom and office comfort and emphasized that the rental costs will be reimbursed by insurance; staff said ship date for equipment is April 13 with expected installation by the end of April.
Both items passed by voice vote and the board proceeded to the scheduled study session.
What’s next: staff will proceed with onboarding and purchases in line with grant/insurance reimbursement processes and will report back as budgetary accounting is completed.
