Resident tells council 113 vehicles ran stop sign during two‑hour watch; police say they will address it

A Bradenton resident told the City Council during the citizen comment period on April 8 that a two‑hour, unscientific traffic watch at a local intersection found 113 vehicles ran the stop sign and did not properly yield, raising concerns about pedestrian safety for residents who use mobility aids.

“I saw a total of 113 vehicles run that stop sign,” Beth Simmons said, recounting an 11 a.m.–1 p.m. observation and expressing concern for a person using a white cane she had seen trying to cross the intersection. Simmons said she had also reported the issue to the police department but was told there were limited deputies available.

Chief Theers responded on behalf of the police department and said the department will address the concern. No specific enforcement timeline was announced during the meeting.

The council did not take formal action at the meeting but staff acknowledged the complaint and indicated the police department would follow up.
