Riverside‑Brookfield board names two student advisers, honors youth philanthropy participants

The Riverside‑Brookfield Township High School District 208 Board of Education appointed Emma Lopez and Olivia Lopez as student advisers for the 2024–25 school year and recognized students who participated in the Community Memorial Foundation YC2 youth philanthropy program.

Board members unanimously approved a resolution naming the two seniors as student advisers after the students described the selection process and their plans to represent the student body. "I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I am so glad that I have the chance to share my voice and represent the greater student body," Emma Lopez told the board.

Earlier in the meeting, administrators recognized a group of RBHS juniors and seniors who participated in the YC2 program. Presenters said 69 students were accepted into the program this year, that teams conducted site visits and evaluated grant requests, and that the program awarded funds to local nonprofits (the packet referenced grants allocated up to a $30,000 pool). Students summarized their work selecting finalists and allocating grants to organizations including a domestic‑violence support program.

The appointments and recognitions were made during the board's recognitions portion of the agenda and were approved without recorded opposition. The board noted it will orient the student advisers over the summer so they will be prepared for budget and other discussions in the school year ahead.

The board took no additional formal action tied to the YC2 grants during the meeting; supporters and family members were present in the room to congratulate the students.
