Angel Martinez, a Hialeah resident, told the City of Hialeah council that proposed condominium rule changes are moving "a little too quickly" and asked the city to slow implementation so volunteer association leaders can absorb and implement changes across East and West Hialeah.
"The condominiums is a lot of organizations and a lot of these are volunteer positions so we need to be just a little bit slower on how we go about doing this process," Martinez said during public comment, asking for broader outreach and more time to implement the rules.
Mayor (speaking as mayor) responded by announcing monthly condominium office hours on Monday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the fourth floor by appointment, encouraging residents and association leaders to register through the city's social channels or the mayor's office for deeper, one-on-one assistance. The mayor said staff must balance community needs with state law requirements.
The announcement aims to give owners and volunteer association leaders an opportunity to raise permitting, compliance and implementation questions directly with staff and the mayor's office. The mayor said the office hours will be a recurring monthly event.
The council did not take formal action on the condominium proposal at the meeting; the mayor encouraged attendees to use the office hours and constituent services for individual follow-up.
