Resident Barbara Canales presented photos showing commercial vehicles and alleged that a nearby bakery has effectively turned her block into a commercial parking lot, and she urged the mayor to reinstate police patrols and install a three‑way stop and a no‑parking sign near her home after a fatal crash in April.
"The infamous Biggie Bakery has turned my block into a commercial parking lot," Canales said, requesting additional enforcement and a traffic-control device near Northwest 122nd Street and West 17 Court, where she said a fatal crash occurred on April 13.
Police Chief George Fuentes reported a recent increase in proactive enforcement: "They've issued 214 parking citations, 36 parking warnings, 240 commercial vehicle citations, 18 commercial vehicle warnings... and 116 referrals to our code enforcement unit," and he urged residents to call the city's nonemergency number (305-687-2525) to report trouble spots.
Council members asked staff to focus sector enforcement on afternoons and overnight hours and noted a conceptual parking plan exists for the corridor but is not yet funded. Jose Sanchez, director of the Streets Division, said requests from the neighborhood for both no‑parking and legal parking have produced a mixed record of preferences and that the design is not funded currently.
