Laguna Beach USD reports superintendent separation approved 3–2 in closed session

The Laguna Beach Unified School District governing board reported during an open study session May 12 that it had approved a mutual separation agreement and general release with Superintendent Dr. Jason Glass. The board president said the agreement was executed on May 12, 2026, and that Dr. Glass’s resignation will be effective May 31, 2026; he will be placed on paid administrative leave effective May 13, 2026.

The board president reported the closed‑session motion was made by Trustee Howard Hills and seconded by Trustee Dee Perry and that the action passed by a 3–2 vote, with Members Malcheski and Kelly recorded as opposing. The board did not take further public action on the matter during the study session.

The announcement prompted audible objections from members of the public in the room. The board moved on to a scheduled budget study presentation; trustees said additional public comment time and regular meeting business are scheduled for the district’s next meeting.

The board will announce any administrative steps arising from the separation when appropriate; the study session record indicates the formal resignation effective date and the start of paid administrative leave.
