The Weatherford City Council approved two linked items to move forward on a renovation of the Development Services and Parks administration offices.
Jacob Kirkpatrick, director of parks, recreation, special events and facilities, presented a space plan for a roughly 2,500-square-foot addition and asked council to authorize an amendment to the professional services agreement with Elements of Architecture Inc. for $29,950, bringing the aggregate fiscal-year architect expenditures to $225,950. Kirkpatrick said staff’s anticipated total project cost is about $2.6 million (noting an earlier $3.0 million figure reported in project materials) and that some roofing costs were covered by insurance.
“If this is approved tonight, preliminary construction would begin on Monday, May 18,” Kirkpatrick said. He described the amendment as covering geotechnical work, structural engineering and expanded mechanical, electrical and plumbing design.
The council also authorized the city manager to execute a construction contract with DRI Construction for $98,515.15 for preliminary construction work (recorded in the meeting as part of a total aggregate fiscal-year expenditure of $953,627). Staff said the preliminary scope includes demolition, removal and replacement of plumbing, HVAC and data systems, and continues earlier asbestos remediation work.
Motions to approve both items were made and seconded on the floor. For the design amendment (item 8b) Luke Williams moved for approval and Mayor Pro Tem Zach Smith seconded; for the preliminary construction contract (item 8c) Mayor Pro Tem Smith moved and Matt Tiscus seconded. Both items passed; vote tallies were recorded by council touchscreens but were not listed in the transcript.
