Board unanimously approves amendment to Block Construction contract for San Antonio campus

The Los Altos School District Board of Trustees on Thursday approved an amendment to the Block Construction contract for increment one of the San Antonio campus project, allowing demolition and site utility work to proceed.

Board member Stella moved to approve the amendment and Jim seconded. Before the vote trustees asked whether the increment’s cost aligned with preliminary estimates; staff said the notice to proceed for increment one is within budgeted amounts and there were no anticipated change orders at this time. The motion passed unanimously.

Staff said increment one covers demolition and site utilities and that subcontractor work for that increment has been bid. They said crews would mobilize next week and that the district has coordinated necessary service shutoffs with the city of Mountain View and PG&E. The presentation noted the contract includes allowances for unforeseen conditions and early procurement and that later increments and consultant contracts will return to the board for approval.

Board members thanked staff and asked clarifying questions about cost tracking. One trustee asked specifically whether this chunk matched the preliminary budget; staff responded that it did.

Next steps: staff will proceed with increment-one mobilization and return with additional contract and consultant approvals for later increments as the project moves through DSA and other approvals.
