Allison White, speaking for the Los Altos Teachers Association, told trustees she appreciated how teachers' implementation concerns have been surfaced and addressed during the district’s math-adoption process.
White said teachers benefited from conversations about practical issues such as unboxing and organizing multiple boxes of materials and that the district had created space to discuss operational challenges tied to curriculum adoption. She also reported she had been appointed by the State Board of Education to serve as an instructional materials reviewer for the upcoming ELA/ELD materials review process, citing recent state legislation (including AB 1454) that is shaping materials adoption and structured literacy training and reimbursement.
White described the review process in Sacramento as rigorous and noted that reviewers will help vet which programs qualify for state reimbursement; she said the experience will provide useful perspective for local curriculum decisions. The board thanked her for the update and for teacher participation in the adoption work.
