The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on May 5 adopted a proclamation recognizing May 2–9, 2026, as National Public Service Recognition Week in Sarpy County and separately honored corrections staff during National Corrections Officer and Employees Appreciation Week.
The chair read the public service proclamation and thanked county employees for their work in maintaining county services and infrastructure. The board funded three employee luncheons this week to visit county departments.
Corrections Director Joe Martin addressed the board and presented the corrections awards. "Corrections Week is not only a time that we recognize all the men and women who keep the facility running 24/7," Martin said, then announced Employee of the Year Kyla Frederick, Administrative Services Manager; Officer of the Year Austin (recorded in the transcript as Austin Blunt/Austin Bland); and Supervisor of the Year Sergeant Kyle Farmer.
Commissioners praised corrections staff and emphasized problem‑solving court programs in the county, naming drug court, wellness court, veterans court and reentry court as examples of efforts to reduce recidivism. The board also recognized Sarpy Teen Court for receiving a public service award from the Omaha Bar Association.
The board's proclamations were adopted during the meeting's awards and proclamations segment; no formal vote record was provided in the transcript for the proclamations beyond the adoption language read into the record. The meeting continued to the regular agenda after the presentations.
