The New Milford Mayor and Council on Tuesday adopted two ordinances on final reading and approved a personnel appointment.
Clerk read Ordinance 2026 col 15, a bond ordinance to appropriate $416,000 for various public improvements and equipment — listed in the ordinance as road resurfacing, body‑worn cameras, replacement firearms and fire apparatus — and to authorize bonds and bond anticipation notes to finance the appropriation. After opening the public hearing (no public comments), council voted to adopt the ordinance on final reading by roll call. The transcript recorded six 'yes' votes: Councilman Sanen, Councilman Xylner, Councilwoman Duffy, Councilman Gratzky, Council President Seymour and Councilwoman Grant. No 'no' votes were recorded.
The council next took up Ordinance 2026 code 16 to exceed municipal budget appropriation limits and to establish a cap bank pursuant to NJSA 4A:4‑45.14. The ordinance was read, opened for public comment (none), and adopted on final reading with a unanimous roll call vote in the transcript.
Earlier in the meeting the council moved, seconded and approved an appointment to the fire department: Connor Tanzy was appointed to Fire Department Company One. The transcript records the motion, second and a voice vote in favor; no roll‑call was recorded for the appointment.
A required public hearing was also held for New Milford’s 2026 Burton County Open Space Trust Fund grant application for Kennedy Field Tennis Court improvements (resurfacing, nets, energy‑efficient lighting and pickleball striping). No members of the public commented and the hearing was closed.
The ordinances adopted are administrative actions that fund capital projects and provide budget flexibility; they were passed during the meeting’s regular order of business and will be reflected in upcoming budget documents. The council moved into closed session at the meeting’s end and indicated no formal action would follow the closed session.
