The City Commission on April 27 approved Ordinance O-26-13, a budget amendment authorizing funds to resurface the field house northwest parking lot at Chain of Lakes Park.
Staff said cost savings from the Phase 2 Chain of Lakes Park contract and savings within the Parks and Recreation operating budget allow the city to engage the contractor (Rodda Construction) for a change order while the firm remains mobilized. The change order totals $209,914; staff proposed transferring $110,000 from the general fund to the construction fund to cover part of the cost and use $99,914 from savings within the existing contract to cover the remainder.
Department-level savings cited for the $110,000 transfer included $30,000 from parks and grounds, $40,000 from aquatics operations and $40,000 from field house operations. Staff recommended approval on second and final reading; the commission approved the ordinance by voice vote.
What happens next: Staff will authorize the change order and direct the city manager or designee to sign documents related to the work. Project scheduling and construction will proceed under the existing Rodda contract while the company remains on site.
