The RSU 10 school board voted to table approval of the district’s health and safety emergency management plan after members said the flip-chart summary on the table did not provide enough detail for an annual approval.
Board members asked for the comprehensive emergency response plan—described in the discussion as a much larger, building-specific document of roughly 100 pages—so they could review procedures, chemical hygiene charts, and SRO and custodian response protocols. Alison and others said they wanted a presentation and all supporting materials before taking a formal vote; one member said prior threat responses had raised concerns about how incidents were handled.
The superintendent and staff said the flip charts are the operational, building-specific quick-reference materials currently used by staff and that the full written plan exists but needs updating to reflect staff changes and the district transition after July 1. The board agreed that staff would prepare and present the comprehensive plan at a future meeting (suggested November) and that tabling the item now would allow time for revision and a fuller presentation to the board and the state contact.
A motion to table the approval until the next meeting was moved and seconded and carried; the superintendent will coordinate a full review and deliver the complete plan for board consideration.
