A Parks, Culture and Recreation staff member for the City of Panama City announced a new volunteer initiative called "Panama City Serves," saying the program will connect residents, families and groups with opportunities across the city, including park cleanups, beautification projects and assistance at community events.
The announcement emphasized streamlined sign-up and matching: "Getting started is simple. Just complete the online interest form on our website and our staff will connect you with upcoming opportunities to match your availability and interests," the staff member said. The program is presented as a single point of access for residents seeking short-term volunteer shifts and longer-term roles.
City officials also said the MLK Junior Recreation Center will expand its community-involvement options. Staff described a formal proposal process so individuals and organizations can propose new activities, lead classes or volunteer with existing programs; "Selected participants will go through a background check as part of the approval process, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all," the staff member said.
A policy guide, information packet and an activity-and-event proposal form are available online, the staff member added, to help residents turn ideas into programming at the center. The announcement framed the effort as community-driven: "This effort is all about community-driven impact, giving residents a direct role in shaping the programs and experiences offered right here in Panama City. Your time and ideas can make an impact," the staff member said.
The staff member encouraged interested people to use the online interest form to register; the city did not specify program start dates, staffing levels, or funding sources in the announcement. The materials and proposal form are available on the City of Panama City Parks, Culture and Recreation Department website.
The city called the initiative "Panama City Serves."
