Resident urges town to fix dusty millings and potholes on Oakland neighborhood streets

At the public forum on April 28, resident Scott Rand (305 Edge) told the commission milling projects in Oakland Shores are leaving loose material, producing dust and forming potholes. He said previous millings had already failed in places and urged the town to require bonding agents or better compaction for future projects.

"Millings without a bonding agent just do not hold up," Rand said, describing a visible dust plume from a UPS truck that he said engulfed the road and drifted onto property. He cited trouble on Edgrove, Mathersmith and Arrington, saying some sections show two different materials and that potholes were forming.

Town staff acknowledged the concern and noted public works continues to monitor streets and that spring cleanup and hazardous waste collection dates were forthcoming; the transcript shows public works and engineering matters will be evaluated through the town’s project and paving procedures. The commission did not take immediate action at the meeting and the resident’s complaint was recorded in the minutes for follow up.

Next steps: resident concerns about bonding and milling quality will be handled by public works as part of road maintenance and upcoming paving/project reviews.
