Alan Blaylock delivered an emotional farewell to his colleagues and residents at the Fort Worth City Council meeting on May 12, outlining accomplishments in District 10 and thanking staff, partners and family as he prepares to run for the Texas House.
In the roughly 20-minute address, Blaylock credited progress on infrastructure and economic growth: he cited roughly $281,000,000 in transportation investments and about $137,000,000 in city-funded water infrastructure projects led by the city, and said those efforts helped leverage nearly $3,000,000,000 in private and partner investment into the district. He thanked transportation and public-works staff, the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership, Fort Worth Aviation and partners at Hillwood, and named staff and community volunteers who supported district work.
Council members offered tributes before Blaylock spoke. Council member Beck called him "one of the best people" she’d served with and predicted he would be a strong advocate for Fort Worth in Austin. Other members thanked him for level-headedness, counsel and friendship and noted the personal sacrifices of public service.
At the end of the public remarks the council presented Blaylock with a ceremonial gift (identified in the transcript as a "Bronco Buster," a Remington replica) and then proceeded to present the certificate of election and administer the oath to Chris Jamieson, the recently elected District 10 councilmember.
Blaylock said he will continue to advocate for Fort Worth while serving at the state level and closed by thanking his wife and daughters for their support. The council adjourned the public session and convened an executive session on attorney advice, real property, economic development negotiations and security matters under cited Texas statutes.
The transcript includes no roll-call votes tied to the tributes, and the investment figures were stated by Blaylock in his remarks.
