Troy Burg, founding president of Los Vision Association, presented an updated scope for tamarisk control in the northern Great Salt Lake area. Burg described treatment zones totaling hundreds of acres (including a large 330‑acre zone and a 72‑acre area targeted for restoration) and emphasized objectives of restoring waterfowl nesting habitat, reducing water use by invasive plants and reestablishing native species.
Budget details presented totaled about $96,200 for the first year of the proposal, including contractor herbicide and fuel costs ($27,000 cited for refuge contributions), volunteer labor estimated at roughly $25,000 in donated time and primary contractor line items for work on the larger spur areas. Burg and members discussed staging the work as an annual request, because tamarisk treatment is typically ongoing: once cleared, parcels must be monitored and retreated to prevent reinvasion.
Council discussion focused on improving the project’s competitive ranking via coordination with nearby projects and larger proposals, which could increase the chances of additional funding from sportsman group or shared proposals. Council members moved and passed a motion to approve the project for funding consideration — a voice vote was recorded as "I" with no recorded opposition — and staff explained final award decisions will be reached after budget reconciliation and director approval.
