Code enforcement reports 846 vehicles and 281.85 tons collected at storm green‑waste event; county seeks reimbursement

Michelle Galler, code enforcement supervisor, reported to the Board of Supervisors on April 28 that a community green‑waste recycling event held March 20–April 3 at Pioneer Lowerfield Park removed storm‑related debris and served residents who requested assistance.

Galler said the program operated four days and recorded 846 vehicles delivering green waste; staff removed 57 dumpsters (two 20‑cubic‑yard units for stumps and 55 40‑cubic‑yard dumpsters for miscellaneous materials) totaling 281.85 tons of green waste. She said several companies and volunteers assisted, including CalFire youth crews for loading and unloading.

She reported the event was supported by a $20,000 grant from the Resource Conservation District and CalFire and that total event costs (labor, supplies, equipment and dumpster rentals) exceeded that grant. The county approved a $30,000 contingency to cover shortfalls and Galler said the RCD has been asked to cover a $7,161 overage; the RCD has responded that it is reviewing the claim and processing may take two to three months.

Galler said the next green‑waste event is scheduled June 4–7, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. at Pioneer Lowerfield Park and provided a public contact number for residents seeking more information.
