Board adopts resolution to raise school impact fees after brief public hearing

The Ocean View School District board opened a public hearing at 7:23 p.m. on April 28 to consider increasing school impact fees charged to developers of residential and commercial/industrial projects. The hearing was brief — staff accepted public input during the allotted one minute and then closed the hearing.

The board subsequently moved, seconded and adopted Resolution 242526 to raise impact fees pursuant to Government Code section 65995 and Education Code section 17620. A trustee described the change as "extremely important" as the district updates fees to ensure fairness and to support facilities tied to new development. The motion passed unanimously.

Why it matters: Impact fees provide a revenue stream used for school facilities and capital needs as new development occurs; the changes will affect future residential and commercial/industrial projects within the district.
