During the public-comment period, Lee Braun, a parent and district employee, urged the board to move graduation because it conflicts with the IESA state track meet and prevents some students from attending. "My daughter couldn't attend last year along with several of her friends because the school district wants to have it on Saturday," Braun said.

Board members responded that conference membership and travel patterns are longstanding challenges. Staff explained the district's current conference alignment largely reflects available invitations and comparable school sizes, and that previous conferences dissolved, leaving limited nearby options. Board members said they review conference membership periodically but cannot unilaterally join another league without invitation and compatible sports offerings.
