Scotch Plains-Fanwood board adopts 2026–2027 school budget

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education adopted its 2026–2027 school budget at the April 30 meeting following a public hearing during which no members of the public offered comments. The board president opened the budget-only public hearing, reminded attendees that comments must be limited to the budget and requested speakers state full name and municipality. With no speakers, the board proceeded to a motion to adopt the budget and approved it in a roll call vote with all board members present voting yes.

Board members and the business office emphasized that the tentative budget presented had not changed since it was advertised. Several board members commended the business office for securing funding and managing capital priorities amid statewide funding shifts that have left some districts struggling to find revenue. Business Administrator Mr. Jones outlined capital projects tied to the referendum and noted that package two—major electrical and HVAC work at the high school and two middle schools—will require long lead times and future bids.

The board recorded a roll call showing unanimous support for the budget; the motion carried and the budget was passed. The board will proceed with planned referendum work and upcoming procurement steps as described by administration; no budget amendments were proposed at the meeting.
