Association negotiators proposed a formal, joint classified workload committee as part of Article 6 bargaining to address persistent staffing and safety concerns.
Under the proposal the committee would include four association representatives, the director of human resources and two district management appointees. The committee would have the authority to request and review all data related to workload and to make determinations that could delay implementation of workload increases until the committee’s review is complete. The association requested that the committee hold its first meeting each year no later than Oct. 1 and that the association president or a designate be released 0.1 FTE to facilitate committee work.
The association framed the committee as a practical alternative to negotiating workload rates for every classification and building. “There’s a lot of nuance. There’s a lot of things that are complicated about workload,” the negotiator said, adding that the committee would advise on safety, staffing allocations and use of floaters.
The district heard the proposal; no final agreement or formal vote was recorded during the session.
Next steps: the proposal enters the bargaining record and will be subject to further negotiation.
