Holliston School Committee approves MSBA outreach, urges community to apply to School Building Committee

The Holliston School Committee voted unanimously on April 30 to approve a communications package about the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) feasibility study and to publicize openings on the town
nd School Building Committee (SBC).

Committee members said the MSBA feasibility process remains preliminary but important for planning a potential school project. The committee will send an email to the public, post a packet on the town website and host SBC office hours at Rushford and other times to gather community input. Chair called for the communications message to include an SBC interest form link on May 8 and for an initial email to go out the night the draft was finalized.

During discussion, members debated whether the communications should include a specific reimbursement percentage from the MSBA. "We can say approximately 50%," a member said, noting that the final reimbursement will depend on the project's scope and eligibility. Committee members emphasized that the exact net reimbursement will not be known until MSBA completes its calculations and the district signs a reimbursement agreement.

The committee also confirmed outreach logistics: recruiting for two School Committee-designated SBC seats (one parent and/or educator preferred), clarifying that voting educator seats cannot be district employees, and timing the recruitment to close May 23 with appointments possible in early June.

The motion to approve the communications package passed by roll call vote. The committee said it will present a concise feasibility-study presentation at town meeting on May 11 and keep the larger packet available online for residents seeking more detailed data.
