Board approves hiring of Jamil Hood as Albany High varsity boys basketball coach

The board approved the routine consent agenda, which included the naming of Jamil Hood as the district's varsity boys basketball coach. Athletic director Kim Pillah described a multi-stage search process with a 15-member screening committee and roughly 30 inquiries for the position; the committee conducted two days of interviews before recommending Hood.

Coach Hood thanked the board, committee members and community supporters and described his approach as focused on building "young men, not just basketball players," emphasizing academics, accountability and support for players’ broader life circumstances. "I accept this position with gratitude, but also with responsibility," Hood said, outlining goals that include academic expectations, character development and community-building alongside on-court performance.

The hire was announced publicly during the meeting after the consent agenda was approved; no separate contested vote on the hire was recorded.
