Residents urged to participate in regional recycling survey as county prepares mandated plan

A member of the public urged commissioners to publicize two regional MMP recycling surveys so county residents and elected officials can provide input that will shape a multi‑county recycling plan due in July 2027.

The commenter said one survey targets elected officials and the other targets residents and that both are brief. Commissioners and staff discussed outreach channels, noting the survey is posted on the MMP web page, shared to participating counties’ social channels, and has been reported by a regional broadcaster. Townships expressed interest in serving as local collection sites if a county recycling framework proceeds.

Commissioners emphasized that the survey and resulting plan are for planning purposes and that enforcement of recycling or blight is a separate municipal function. One commissioner said the county lacks a comprehensive recycling program and is fulfilling a state requirement to prepare a plan. Officials encouraged townships to complete the survey and suggested the county will consider geographic placement of collection sites to keep service reasonably close for residents.
