Smyrna beer board grants special-event permit for Simply Smyrna Celebration on June 13

The Smyrna Beer Board voted unanimously May 4 to grant a special-event permit for the Simply Smyrna Celebration scheduled for June 13.

Applicant Mr. Alley and event coordinator Victoria Willigus described two controlled alcohol areas: a fenced venue behind their building to function as a music venue, and a roped area near the depot that will serve as the main beer garden. They said Crimson Security will staff entrances and perform ID checks; patrons who are cleared to consume alcohol will receive armbands. Willigus told the board the larger, roped area will be limited to patrons of legal drinking age while the fenced venue area will be open to all attendees but require an armband to purchase beer.

Organizers gave event hours of 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last call typically about 9:00 p.m. They said they will include two indoor wine-tasting areas and that the celebration will tie into the Tennessee 250 music-trail programming. After board questions about ID and security, a motion to approve carried on a voice vote.

The board did not record additional permit conditions in the meeting minutes; organizers were told they could pick up permit materials following the meeting.
