Consultants from Baker Tilly led a strategic‑plan workshop and shared draft motto, mission, values and four proposed goals based on extensive surveys and community input.
The consultants said community and staff feedback favored a student‑centered mission and a motto that ties to student futures. Board members voiced preferences: some favored retaining "Be extraordinary" as an active, districtwide call to action while others preferred the student‑focused phrase "Extraordinary futures begin here" as a tagline. Trustees agreed to move the current motto forward in the draft and to incorporate the student‑focused language in messaging.
On mission and values, the board and consultants converged on a recommended mission that emphasizes engaging, innovative and equitable learning environments that inspire students to reach full potential. Trustees asked that family and community partnerships be made explicit—not just as objectives but visible in goals and communications—and sought a clearer, more aspirational wording for the operational goal (staff support and systems) so it is not perceived as merely administrative.
Consultants outlined next steps: revise language based on tonight’s feedback, circulate a draft for community review (including site visits and an online survey), and return a full draft for board consideration on June 4.
Board members encouraged site visits and said trustees should remain open to shadowing students and staff to better understand day‑to‑day experiences.
