The Kernersville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously May 5 to rezone a 1.42‑acre property at 1470 Hampton Plaza Drive from Limited Industrial Special to Limited Industrial Conditional to permit veterinary services and pet daycare and to adopt a site plan that corrects parking and screening deficiencies.
Katherine Gardner, director of community development, said the site was originally approved with limited industrial uses and that the requested veterinary and pet‑daycare services comply with the town’s land‑use designation. Staff recommended approval with adoption of prior conditions and acceptance of an as‑built site plan that adjusts parking striping and driveway/dumpster screening dimensions to meet UDO standards.
Frank Chapman, agent for LHR Industries LLC and vice president at a construction firm, introduced the project team and said the petition would not add buildings but would bring the site into full compliance for future occupancy permits. Chapman answered board questions during the public hearing; no speakers registered opposition.
A motion to approve the rezoning (case K547 A10) was made and seconded; the board voted unanimously. A clerk clarified that a transposition in printed materials had incorrectly shown case 574; the record was corrected to K547 A10.
Staff will require applicants for any future use that triggers higher parking demand to meet the UDO’s minimum parking requirements before occupancy; incentives and alternatives exist to address parking constraints without major reconstruction.
