The board approved several routine and targeted items during the May 4 meeting. By roll call, commissioners approved the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council FY 2026–27 budget request of $320,355 (the same amount funded the previous year). The clerk recorded unanimous 'yes' votes from Commissioners Mason, Mitchell, Smith, Howard, Hunt, Vice Chairman Jones and Chairman Booker.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding to join Attainment NC — a two‑year cohort that brings $100,000 per year in funding and cross‑sector support — and appointed county staff member Jeff Wood as the county’s representative with Lyanna Clark as alternate. That appointment was approved by motion and voice vote ('the ayes have it').
Several appointments to advisory boards were made by acclamation where nominees were unopposed, including Debbie Roberts to the Clean Sweep Committee and reappointment of Jonathan Gaskins to the Local Emergency Planning Committee. The board also adopted a proclamation recognizing May 3–9, 2026 as Professional Clerks Week and honored Clerk Abigail G. Wilson.
