Oviedo OKs interlocal agreement with Seminole County on 5¢ gas tax distribution

The Oviedo City Council unanimously approved Resolution No. 4726‑26 on May 4 to enter an interlocal agreement with Seminole County documenting the distribution and administration of the local 5‑cent option gas tax.

City attorney Mr. Cobb told council the Florida Department of Revenue is requiring the county to secure an agreement with each municipality and that the interlocal does not change the statutory formula for how the tax is allocated. “This agreement does not change the statutory distribution of the five cent gas tax to the city,” Mr. Cobb said, adding that the city will decide how its distribution is spent.

Staff said the county’s meeting schedule and state requirements prompted an expedited timeline; council members said adopting the agreement was largely clerical but necessary to keep the county and state timelines. The resolution passed on a unanimous roll call.

Council stressed that the agreement preserves the city’s discretion over its allocation and does not obligate the city to any county spending commitments. The city will file the executed interlocal with the county per state and county administrative instructions.
