The New Canaan Board of Selectmen on May 5 approved continuing its road-paving program with FGB Construction, awarding a base contract of $2,519,497.25 for paving 15 roads in town and authorizing a $252,000 contingency, for a total contract authorization of $2,771,497.25.
Public Works staff explained FGB was the low bidder on the town’s prior public bid and agreed to hold most unit prices at 2025 levels for this contract. Staff also described a standard Department of Transportation asphalt-adjustment clause that adjusts material cost payments up or down based on changes in oil pricing between bid and paving dates, and noted that the clause applies to the asphalt/oil component only.
"FGB is ready to perform the work," a public works official said, and staff outlined staging plans and prioritized the worst-condition roads on the list. The board approved the contract unanimously.
Work is expected to proceed in coordination with other town paving and sidewalk projects; staff said they will inform residents through regular DPW updates about schedules, detours and expected impacts.
