Selectmen approve bottle-filler installation and donor-brick patio at Waveny playground

The Board of Selectmen on May 5 approved two parks projects at Waveny Park: a contract with Hussy Bros Excavating to install a pre-purchased bottle-filler unit (installation cost $5,900 with a $600 contingency, total $6,500) and a contract with Peter Lanny, Inc. to install a stone patio and donor brick walkway ($34,140 plus $3,400 contingency, total $37,540).

Parks staff said the bottle-filler installation includes a new water line tied to the existing meter, an ADA-compliant concrete pad and a 4-inch drain with stone; funding is available within the parks capital playground replacement budget. On the donor-walkway project staff said all donor bricks have already been purchased and delivered through the Friends of the Waveny playground fundraising campaign and that the stone patio and walkway work is anticipated to be completed in May 2026.

Selectmen asked staff to include documentation of bid solicitations and vendor outreach in the project record because only one bidder submitted on the patio/brick work after multiple solicitations; staff provided the list of five companies solicited and explained timing and contractor availability were factors.
